The Kamloops Junior Blazers are proud to have the following professionals as part of our skill development coaching staff:
Chris Murray. Chris played 3 seasons with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL from 1991 - 1994 winning 2 Memorial Cups before being drafted in 1994 by the Montreal Canadiens. After playing one season on their farm team in the AHL, Chris went on to make the Canadiens roster in the fall of 1995. He played the next 6 seasons for various teams in the NHL before retiring in 2001 due to injury. Chris is currently an assistant coach with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL.
Ed Patterson. Patterson is a graduate of the Western Hockey League where he spent four years before being drafted by Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Throughout his WHL career Ed had stops in Seattle, Swift Current and in Kamloops where he won a Memorial Cup in 1992. Patterson joined Pittsburgh's International Hockey League affiliate in Cleveland for the 1992-93 season before making his NHL debut the following year.
Ed was previously an assistant coach with the Kamloops Blazers and is the current head coach of the Kamloops Storm of the KIJHL.
Michelle Pepin - head power skating coach. Michelle joins us from the lower mainland where she was the head power skating coach at the Richmond Olympic Oval and Richmond Minor Hockey where she created the "STRIDE" Power Skating Program. As our Power Skating coach, Michelle exposes our players to a number of styles and techniques all designed to provide them with the knowledge and tools to enhance and improve our players hockey skating techniques and become the best skaters they can be.
Michelle's athletic achievements include: Top 10 world ranked 2013 in Master's Long Track Age Class 500m, Top 20 ranked in the world for 1000m, 1500m and 3000m. 2013 Sliver medalist age class at the International Master Sprint Games held in Salt Lake City Utah. 2012 Canadian Master Women's Gold medalist (Long Track). 2011 Provincial Senior Women's Gold medalist (Short Track). Canadian record holder Master Women's (1) in 500m, 1000m, 1500m and 3000m (Long Track). Canadian record holder Master Women's (1) in 1000m and 1500m (Short Track).
Michelle has 20+ years playing hockey up to College level in Northern Ontario, 15+ years coaching experience. She is a fully certified NOHA Hockey L1 Coach and Trainer, Fully certified Skate Canada Power Skating Coach Highest Level and Fully certified speed skating coach L1.
